This exciting course analyses and evaluates the commercial and management forces that have contributed to the success of sport business. It offers flexibility with an innovative combination of block and online delivery, making it suitable for those working in the sports sector and recent Leisure and Business Bachelor graduates, who are looking to develop their knowledge and understanding of this fast growing and important industry.

Sport is a sophisticated and complex international business, with billions of consumers watching and engaging with sporting events on a weekly or even daily basis.

This course aims to develop professionals in the provision, promotion and marketing of sport who are able to fully capitalize on the opportunities that the sector presents. Through studying marketing, sponsorship, media and law – and after spending time in a sports organization on a professional work placement – you gain academic understanding and practical knowledge of the issues involved in successful sport business management. This will help you to engage, manage and shape the sport businesses of the future.

Full-time students attend workshops on three days per week from October to May. The modules are delivered intensively over consecutive days in the so-called 'block format', which means that each module has 6 days of teaching split into two blocks of 3 days. Teaching methods include group work, case studies, presentations, and live projects. The course is delivered through a variety of approaches including lectures, presentations, tutorials and case studies, with an emphasis on interactive learning.

Each module is taught by two lecturers, one from the University of Brighton and one from Wittenborg University. The full course is taught in Apeldoorn.

The course will address contemporary issues recognized as the major challenges and opportunities for sport business management. This includes researching the complex relationships between sports business and governing bodies, pressure groups and government agencies and analyzing the mechanisms by which sport generates revenue through TV and media rights, gate receipts, sponsorship and merchandise.

Core management studies involving strategy, marketing, sponsorship, operations management, finance, law and human resources are integrated within various compulsory modules that make up the core of the course.

You can study areas of personal interest through two of the following optional modules: Strategic Sport Business Management - Marketing and Sponsorship for Sports and Events - Sports in the Global Marketplace - Professional Enquiry.

Final project: Two from: The Law and Regulation of Sport - Contemporary Issues in Global Sport - Globalization, Society and Culture - Sport for International Development and Peace - Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development - Sport Tourism - Ethical and Social Responsibility: Theory and Application - Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development - Digital Marketing Strategies - Risk and Crisis Management – Ethnography - Tourism and International Cooperation - Human Resource Strategy in Multi-Unit Service Organizations

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

As an international applicant, you will also be required to demonstrate sufficient results of one of these tests:

IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.0 in writing or:

TOEFL test (minimum score of 80 internet-based, and minimum sub score of 290 for speaking & Writing)

Cambridge Lower (FCE) Grade B (173-175)

Cambridge Lower (FCE) Grade C (169-172)

Bachelor degree in related or partially related subject, or a Bachelor degree in non-related subject and a minimum of two years work experience in industry of intended study; or HND, foundation degree or equivalent in a related subject and a minimum of five years relevant work experience; or Professional qualification in an appropriate discipline and a minimum of five years relevant work experience; or Substantial work, professional or managerial experience in a relevant industry.

As a EU student, you encouraged to find their own accommodation, you can however opt for Wittenborg’s own accommodation, if available.

Wittenborg offers accommodation in a number of different places, all close to the university: A. Shared apartments: 3-5 students share an apartment or house. B. Campus accommodation: students have their own room within a campus complex, and share kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Currently, students may stay a maximum of one calendar year at any of the accommodation(s) provided by Wittenborg, to assure rooms are made available for newly arriving students. Wittenborg is working hard to increase its own campus accommodation!

Management positions exist within marketing, sales, planning, sports events, sport administration and facility management. Organizations that offer these positions, include professional sport clubs, sport governing bodies, sport public agencies, sport community recreation departments, sporting goods companies, sport marketing agencies, sport event organizers, health and leisure clubs and athletic service organizations.
