Arnhem, located in the middle of the Netherlands, has a population of 156,600. It is home to two Universities of Applies Sciences and has a distinct student presence and university feel.

Arnhem’s beautiful historic city centre was voted the “best inner city” of the Netherlands in 2007 and 2009 for a reason! There are many great student cafes spread throughout the city, especially in the center. You have wide range of options to pick favorite place to hang out with your friends.

As the capital of Gelderland province, Arnhem has a rich and interesting history, part of which can be discovered in a number of monumental buildings surrounded by green landscapes. The north corner of the municipality is part of the Hoge Veluwe National Park; a beautiful green nature area.

Arnhem has been among the top 10 best shopping cities in Holland for years now. The inner city boasts countless special shops and boutiques, as well as the big fashion chains.

If you love luxury you should go to the chic “Musiskwartier” with its narrow streets and lovely squares. You will also like the old “Eiland district” with its many small shops on Kerkstraat, Bentinckstraat, Wielakkerstraat and Zwanenstraat.

Home of the famous art/fashion academy “ArtEZ”, the city is know as a center of creativity and fashion. If you are looking for fashion and accessories the “Modekwartier” (fashion district) is the place to go. Many designers have shops here and you will find unique and original designs to suit your budget.

You don’t want to go to the city center? Worry no more! There are several “Winkelcentrums” (shoppingmalls) spread throughout the city, including Winkelcentrum Presikhaaf, Winkelcentrum Elderhof and Winkelcentrum Kronenburg.

The Royal Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem is one of the biggest and most-visited zoos in the Netherlands, featuring an underwater walkthrough, desert, mangrove, and rainforest.

Explore National Park De Hoge Veluwe on one of the free white bicycles and admire the world-famous Van Gogh paintings at the Kröller-Müller Museum. Water is essential to life. You’ll discover this at the Holland Water Museum, an interactive underground DIY museum for young and old.

The Netherlands Open Air Museum loves traditions and keeps them alive. The Museum is located just outside the city. It includes antique houses, farms, factories, and windmills from different parts of the Netherlands. Visiting this museum means you will encounter the Holland of the past and not so long ago.

At the GelreDome stadium, the home of Vitesse, the city's Eredivisie team in football, Greek star player Nikos Machlas is still remembered as one of the best strikers the club has ever had.

Arnhem is a city filled with lots and lots of café’s, clubs and nightclubs and also offers many activities to do with your friends! The city has a vibrant student day and night scene and the most popular clubs in the city are: Aspen valley, Manhattan, Plaza, Loft, The Dome, Shotjes bar and 5th Avenue.

Greek students will feel at home straight away in Arnhem, because it is the only city in the Netherlands with a trolleybus system, similar to that of Athens.

HAN University of Applied Sciences campuses in Arnhem has great facilities including study centers, sports facilities, canteens and places to relax with fellow students.

You’ll find everything you need at the HAN campus: extensive multimedia centers, good IT facilities, modern lecture halls, high-tech laboratories and places to socialize with fellow students. Each building has its own cafeteria, where you can get drinks and snacks. The larger cafeterias also offer warm meals.

If you want to do sports during your study, you are welcome to join the various student sports clubs in Arnhem. Most of the sports venues offer very affordable prices and students from HAN often get a discount. The sports facilities are close by, so you can be even healthier and do as the Dutch - ride there on your bike!

In general it will be your own responsibility to find accommodation.

Rental prices for a student room vary from €300 to €500 per calendar month. However, you will most commonly find nice rooms to rent for around € 400. Make sure you book a room in time (preferably in the early spring), so you have the best chances to find the room that suits your wishes. Unfurnished rooms can be cheaper to rent than furnished ones.

Greek (EU) students do not have a guaranteed room on campus, but can contact the HAN Housing Office by email for a place on the campus Housing waiting list.
