Thanks to the huge demand for IT specialists, a wide range of jobs are available for software architects, software developers, front-end developers, big data engineers, data scientists, testers, or software analysts in The Netherlands and anywhere in the world.

Within Software Engineering you will learn to design and develop software: from idea to realization. Learn all about subjects such as: programming, databases, the Internet, designing and developing methods for software, web applications, mobile applications, server-side software, search engines, system architecture, networks, security etc. You can specialize in different subjects such as Big Data Technologies, Advanced Mobile and Hybrid Development, or the Internet of Things.

You will be studying together with many international students. In 2017 there were 24 nationalities studying at our IT program. You will have a great time combining learning, student life and studying with people from different cultures.

First and second years

The first term of your degree revolves around gaining a general overview of the work field of a software Engineer. You will spend the first two years studying subjects which are directly related  to  Software Engineering. Subjects include: introduction to programming, android programming, Algorithms & Data Structures, Software Design, Web technology, Compilers & Operating Systems, Professional Communication, IT & Law etc.

In each period you will attend lectures, seminars, workshops and works in projects. Subjects include: introduction to programming, android programming, Algorithms & Data Structures, Software Design, Web technology, Compilers & Operating Systems, Professional Communication, IT & Law etc.

Third and fourth years

The third year starts with an internship at a company, or organization. This is the opportunity for you to gain practical experience and establish contacts for your future career. After your internship you take a deepening, or broadening minor. This could be an interdisciplinary project in Smart Solutions, a semester abroad at another university, a pre-master at an other Dutch university, or another program at Saxion university. In the first semester of your fourth year, you specialize yourself by choosing elective courses on: User Experience, Big Data, Social Roboting, or another trending development in the field of IT. You will complete your studies with a graduation project, which involves a research project at an IT department or a (IT) company.

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

As an international applicant, you will also be required to demonstrate sufficient results of one of these tests:

IELTS test (minimum overall band score of 6.0, and minimum subscore of 6.0 for speaking)

TOEFL test (minimum score of 80 internet-based, and minimum subscore of 20 for speaking)

CAE (Cambridge Advanced Certificate), or CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)

Greek high school diploma (Apolityrio Genikou Lykeio), with a general grade of at least 10. It is not a requirement, but it is an advantage of you had mathematics at  high school. 

Applying for the September courses of the academic year 2018-2019 will be possible until the application deadline of July 1, 2018.

In case you have not obtained your secondary school diploma yet, you can already apply by submitting your current grade list.

We encourage European students to find their own accommodation.

However, in case you would like to have everything arranged in time and want to immerse yourself in international student life, we offer the possibility to reserve a room in one of our international student houses. In all three cities we have contracts with the local student housing associations. They provide Saxion with accommodation with rooms, which may vary in size. The rooms are all single rooms and furnished with basic facilities like bed, desk, chair and cupboard. All accommodations have an internet connection. The bathroom, toilet and kitchen need to be shared with other international Saxion students, max. 6 students share common facilities.

You can apply for a room as soon as you have been admitted or conditionally admitted. The deadline for applying for Saxion accommodation is 1 May 2018. After this date, it is no longer possible to reserve a room and you will be put on a waiting list.

Bachelor programmes: total rental fee: € 5,000 (11.5 months). You are allowed to pay your rental fee in installments.

Thanks to the huge demand for IT specialists, a wide range of jobs are available for software architects, software developers, front-end developers, big data engineers, data scientists, testers, or software analysts in The Netherlands or abroad. You could set to work within the IT department of a large organization, within a specialized IT company, or you could start your own business.

In The Netherlands 25% of Dutch IT companies have staff shortage. Therefore many Dutch IT companies are used to work in multicultural teams, or they collaborate with companies abroad. In those companies the main language is English. For Software Engineers with good social skills there is plenty of work in The Netherlands! 

You could decide to look for a job in The Netherlands, but you could also launch your career in Greece, or elsewhere. As an IT specialist, you will be welcomed with open arms anywhere in the world. 

With a bachelors diploma from Saxion University of Applied Sciences, you can continue doing a Master’s programme. If you want to do this abroad, you can usually start straightaway.  If you choose to further your studies at a research university in the Netherlands, a pre-master may be required.
