Physiotherapy is a varied and interesting profession, in which you will work with your hands, your mind and your heart.

Physiotherapy Education in The Netherlands are well known over the world. The choice to study physiotherapy in The Netherlands is a good one and will offer you an excellent background and a diploma that is recognized internationally. Our International Physiotherapy School holds a high standard for internationalization for over 20 years. This shows amongst others in the presence of many foreign students and foreign projects, in which both Dutch as well as foreign students participate, but also through the way Saxion designed her education of physiotherapy, according to international standards. Besides this, Saxion has a large foreign networks and agreements with international partners, for the exchange of both students and teachers. Internationalization is also an important issue in research projects and clinical training.

Year one

The first year is all about gathering information about your future profession.

We start with communicating  clients and the basis of evaluation and treatment. The main subjects in the first year are: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Physiotherapy theory. You will also gain practical experience during your first traineeship. 

Year two

The second year will focus the treatment of bones, muscles, tendon and joints.

You will learn about neurological disorders and treatments and internal medicine

Year three

In this year you will further explore the subjects you have already studied in the first two years. Besides you will work on a project, where you will develop a product (e.g. new treatment, change in managing a practice, different client communication) for the physiotherapy field, which actually can be used in practice.

Year four

The final year will see you complete your internships.

The clinical education, which covers approximately one of the four years, can be done in one of several countries. The school has developed an extensive network of affiliated clinical sites in the Netherlands, Norway and Germany. We also offer the possibility to participate in very interesting projects in other countries, like South Africa, Indonesia and India. Students are expected to go abroad for their clinical education, including their home country. To enable an adequate placement, students are expected to bring in at least one clinical education address.

Next to the generic Physiotherapy curriculum, Saxion has a specific focus on:

“Musculo Skeletal Physiotherapy” (manual and sports physiotherapy),

“Rehabilitation for Patients with Chronic Diseases” and

“Labour & Health”

Interesting projects and intensive collaboration with the professional field are based on these specializms.

Fast track (3 years)

A short degree program is a transition program for students who already started bachelor education in another country at another university. The curriculum of the Short Degree Program (SDP) focuses on the application of knowledge, making of judgments in a complex advanced computer science environment. Every SDP is tailor made to the specific student’s situation.

The students’ qualifications will be assessed by the Admission Officer of the specific Course on the basis of provided Diplomas, Curriculum Vitae, a letter of motivation and if necessary an Intake Interview.

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

As an international applicant, you will also be required to demonstrate sufficient results of one of these tests:

IELTS test (minimum overall band score of 6.0, and minimum subscore of 6.0 for speaking)

TOEFL test (minimum score of 80 internet-based, and minimum subscore of 20 for speaking)

CAE (Cambridge Advanced Certificate), or CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)

Greek high school diploma (Apolityrio Genikou Lykeio), with a general grade of at least 10.  To successfully follow this course, a grade of 15 or higher for the following subjects is recommended: biology and/or physics.

A motivation letter and an intake interview (via Skype, telephone or in person), Interview are part of the admission procedure. The result of this assessment is final and binding.

Note: valid registration and taking part in the selection procedure is only possible if both steps have been completed successfully before 1 April 2018!

Applying for the September courses of the academic year 2018-2019 will be possible until the application deadline of April 1, 2018.

In case you have not obtained your secondary school diploma yet, you can already apply by submitting your current grade list.

We encourage European students to find their own accommodation.

However, in case you would like to have everything arranged in time and want to immerse yourself in international student life, we offer the possibility to reserve a room in one of our international student houses. In all three cities we have contracts with the local student housing associations. They provide Saxion with accommodation with rooms, which may vary in size. The rooms are all single rooms and furnished with basic facilities like bed, desk, chair and cupboard. All accommodations have an internet connection. The bathroom, toilet and kitchen need to be shared with other international Saxion students, max. 6 students share common facilities.

You can apply for a room as soon as you have been admitted or conditionally admitted. The deadline for applying for Saxion accommodation is 1 May 2018. After this date, it is no longer possible to reserve a room and you will be put on a waiting list.

Bachelor programmes: 15 August 2018 – 1 August 2019, total rental fee: € 5,000 (11.5 months). You are allowed to pay your rental fee in installments

You have a great variety of career possibilities with the Physiotherapy course. Saxion students learn how they can add economic and social value to professional practice as practitioners starting out in the profession of physiotherapy. They are able to continue to learn and develop in the future.

With a bachelors diploma from Saxion University of Applied Sciences, you can continue doing a Master’s programme. If you want to do this abroad, you can usually start straightaway. If you choose to further your studies at a research university in the Netherlands, a pre-master may be required.
