Year 1 and 2
During the first academic year, you get a chance to experience with several roles, which are: artist, designer and engineer. You will make a provisional choice for a role that seems to suits you best. After the first year you will choose a definitive role and depending on your preference, will either move more in the direction of interactive media in general, or specialize in games.
CMGT initially has a wide-ranging set-up. You are familiarized with the various roles and challenged to experiment with your own role. You will have the opportunity to experiment and make mistakes.
After the first year, you will continue to specialize in one of these profiles: - Game Artist - Media Artist - Experience designer (Media and/or Games) - Media Engineer - Game Engineer
The Artist is a talented illusionist. The most important role of an artist is to create content that really excites the user. You will be taught subjects like - Content creation - Concept Art – Animation - 2D, 3D design- Video and Visual FX - Visual storytelling.
The Experience Designer is the creative jack-of-all-trades, who invents and develops experiences that create value for the user. You will therefore be taught important "Artist-as-Engineer" subjects and specific design subjects such a - Concept design - Gamification - Serious Gaming – Marketing - Game design - User experience - Interaction design.
The Engineer is a structured realist. You are especially good at the technical realization of interactive media and games. You will be taught subjects like: - Computer programming - Game engines – Processing - Web technology.
Year 3 and 4
In your third and fourth year, you will apply your knowledge and skills in practice. You are free to choose you area of interest. In your third year, you will do an internship and minor. You are free to make your own choice. Here, you will have the opportunity to specialize further.
