International Business is a highly innovative and flexible course. It is especially designed to let you experience the real world of international business.

International Business graduates are prepared for a variety of highly skilled tasks. Formulating international strategic policy, for example, or delivering high-quality management reports. They understand the implications of marketing research. They also understand descriptive and mathematical statistics. What’s more, they can make sound decisions based on such information.

During your studies, you will be part of the Arnhem Business School community with students from around 60 different countries. When you graduate, you’ll stay part of this community through “Arnhem Business School’s active Alumni Association”. This way you can keep in touch and network with your old study mates.

In the 1st year of the International Business course you get a broad foundation in all areas of international business. You also study a second foreign language, apart from English. Dutch and Spanish start at beginners’ level. French and German start at intermediate level and require two to three years of previous training. French is available only for students starting in September, not to February starters. To help keep you on track, you are assigned a study career coach in your 1st year. This coach will guide you in your academic and personal development.

1st year subjects:

Marketing & E-business - Intercultural Awareness - Dutch/Spanish/French, or German - Finance & Cost Accounting - Change Management - Supply Chain Management & Digital Innovation- Research & Critical Thinking

With this solid basis, you are ready to choose your specialization in the 2nd year. There are 4 options:

- Finance

In this specialization your fields of expertise will be: strategic management, performance management, finance, operations & reporting, governance, risk & compliance.

- Organization & Change

In this specialization you learn how to advise companies about new developments and how to implement them. Examples of such new innovations are E-business and sustainability.

- Marketing & Sales

In Marketing & Sales you learn how businesses can expand their activities into new international markets. Subjects include: Entering new markets abroad, International account management, International sales and E-commerce. You also learn a second foreign language besides English: German, French, Dutch or Spanish.

- Supply Chain Management

In supply chain management you are always weighing the customers’ needs, the operational possibilities and the financial consequences.

Lectures are held in small groups of about 30 students, ensuring a hands-on, personal approach to your education. Lecturers from various countries teach the internationally-oriented parts of the course. Foreign guest lecturers are also frequently invited to give presentations about special topics.

3rd year:

Study Abroad. You study at a university outside the Netherlands for a semester.  It is fairly flexible and you can often select your own subjects. Your choice of subjects depends on your specialization. For your study abroad, you can choose from over 100 partner universities of HAN around the world.

Work placement (usually also abroad), or a pre-master.

4th year:

Business Project - Strategy & Leadership 

In-company Graduation Assignment. The graduation assignment is done individually as a project. It involves writing a thesis based on desk and field research. The aim is to develop a solution for a strategic business problem. This is an actual problem that the company is currently facing. The graduation assignment takes place at an international company or business support organization. This could be Philips, Siemens, Tesla, Kraft Heinz, or Heineken.

1st year exemptions may be granted for subjects you have already taken in higher education. They must closely resemble our subjects. The Board of Admissions will review your application and announce its decision after the start of course. 

To apply for course exemptions, or for admission to a higher year, you must have      successfully completed more than one year of higher education, with subjects in business, management, logistics, finance or communication. You must provide official transcripts of grades (stamped by the institute of higher education), with detailed course descriptions and reading list.

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

The level required for admission should be an equivalent of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.0 or higher, or TOEFL iBT score of 80 or higher, or diploma’s such as:

Cambridge Advanced (CAE) Grade C (180 - 184)

Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)

Greek high school diploma (Apolytirio Genikou Lykeio), with a general grade of at least 16 and a grade of at least 17 for Mathematics.

The application procedure also includes a course selection check. This check helps you choose the right course, which increases your chances of study success. The course selection check consists of a (Skype) call resulting in a recommendation from HAN.

August 15, 2019 for Bachelor starting September 2019            

January 15, 2019 for Bachelor starting February 2019  

In general it will be your own responsibility to find accommodation. Rental prices for a student room vary from €300 to €500 per calendar month. However, you will most commonly find rooms to rent for around € 400. Make sure you book a room in time (preferably in the early spring), so you have the best chances to find the room that suits your wishes. Unfurnished rooms can be cheaper to rent than furnished ones.

Greek (EU) students do not have a guaranteed room on campus, but can contact the HAN Housing Office by email for a place on the campus Housing waiting list.

They typically begin at entry levels and later on progress to middle and senior-management positions, such as: Online Marketing Manager - Sales Manager - Business Consultant - Financial Analyst - Project Manager - Supply Chain Manager - Account Manager

With a Bachelors diploma from HAN University of Applied Sciences, you can continue doing a Master’s program at a Research University. If you want to do this abroad, you can usually start straightaway. If you have done your minor at a research university in the Netherlands during the third year of your studies at the HAN University of Applied Sciences, you can get direct access to a Master’s program at a research university in the Netherlands as well. If not, Dutch research universities offer bridging program to prepare HAN Bachelors students for a Masters course.
