International Business & Languages, prepares you for a career in a global environment. You will become an expert at doing business in cross-cultural settings. You will become a global citizen with a solid knowledge base, proficiency in modern languages and a highly developed intercultural sensitivity and global mindset.

As international market intelligence officer you analyze the current market, the specific industry and the economic environment, in order to identify factors that potentially influence your company's growth in a new international market.

You will have the unique opportunity to create your own learning path throughout the study program. As your personal and professional development is at the core of our teaching, the program uses a variety of learning methods. Lecturers act as coaches: “sparring partners” who help you to solve problems, find answers, to be creative and think outside the box.

This program has a strong focus on international marketing & sales, acquiring multilingual communication and cross-cultural skills.

IB means international travel! As of year 1 you will take part in international excursions and project weeks. You can spend your work placement at a company anywhere in the world, just like your graduation work placement in year 4.

In addition, you will be able to spend a semester at a university abroad, immersing yourself in a completely different culture. Exchange agreements with partner universities around the world are available.

The first year is a general introduction to international business: international sales and marketing, finance, organization & people and supply chain and operations. You will work on your professional skills and cross-cultural capabilities including English and other modern languages. You must earn a minimum of 52 ECTS credits out of 60 in year 1 in order to progress to year 2.

1st Year Subjects:

IB Deal Development, IB Deal Making, Content Creation in combination with Business Research method & skills, Product Concept.

For your individual profile, you can choose from the following specialization options: Communication skills, languages & intercultural awareness, Personal Leadership, Product Concept Research, Business Model Launch, IB Strategy Identification, IB Strategy Development.

In combination with Business Research method & skills: Business Model Creation, Concept Communication: - Product Concept Research - Product Concept - IB Deal Development - IB Deal-making - Content Creation, or:

In combination with Business Research method & skills: Concept Communication - Business Model Creation - Business Model Launch - IB Strategy Identification - IB Strategy Development.

Year 2:

As of year 2, you have the opportunity to decide on your focus area in international business. You will take study trips abroad, meet entrepreneurs and do research. You will have your first work placement in year 2, or year 3. This placement always takes place in a country that is not your country of origin.

The placement is an introduction to the real work environment of international business. You will participate actively in various business activities and do research on potential opportunities, improvements or innovations within different business areas. A company mentor and your coach provide supervision and support. Through our business network event, you have the opportunity to meet businesses who have placements available.

Year 3:

In year 3, or 4 you will have the chance to specialize or broaden your scope with a minor. For your graduation project, you might do an assignment at an international company or an international research assignment for the Avans Centre of Expertise in Sustainable Business.

In year 3 or 4 you will have the chance to further specialize, or broaden your scope with a minor.

For your graduation project, you might do an assignment at an international company or an international research assignment for the Avans Centre of Expertise in Sustainable Business Graduation program.

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

The level required for admission should be an equivalent of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 7.0 or higher, or TOEFL iBT score of 100 or higher, or diploma’s such as:

Cambridge Advanced (CAE) Grade C (180 - 184)

Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)

Greek high school diploma (Apolytirio Genikou Lykeio), with a general grade of at least 16, preferably with Mathematics and Economics.

Avans University of Applied Sciences does not offer student accommodation.

Instead, we collaborate with housing associations and letting agencies to make sure our students find suitable housing. Our housing partners have furnished rooms available throughout the city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch and surroundings. These rooms vary in size, rent and location. But in all cases you will share a flat or live in a residency with other students, usually international students. Rental prices vary but you will pay no more than €510 per month maximum. This includes water, electricity, gas and in most rooms internet access.

Early registration for accommodation prior to the start of the study program is a must.

Avans Hogeschool also is a partner of international student-to-student housing platform HousingAnywhere.com. If you are coming from abroad, you can use this website to book a student room. Using the platform is free for you as a student. You will be charged an administrative fee for using Housing Anywhere’s secure booking system when you make a booking.

As a student of Avans University of Applied Sciences in ’s-Hertogenbosch, you can also register with the housing corporation BrabantWonen. This website is unfortunately not available in English.

The world of international business offers many opportunities; in The Netherlands, or anywhere in the world. Your first employer may be a multinational with subsidiaries in the Netherlands, or family-owned, mid-sized companies, with a strong ambition to develop their international sales. Governmental institutions in trade promotion, or development, regional development agencies or large cities also offer opportunities for young International Business professionals.

Upon graduation, you may continue with a master’s degree at one of the Dutch research universities or at one of the (partner) universities abroad. In Holland for example the “Master in International Business” at the close by Tilburg University.
