As an international financial specialist, you know how to create profitability, take investment decisions, apply risk management and present a business or export plan. Finance & Control (International Financial Management), trains you to become a financial professional who understands that a specific approach is needed in every country.

You are an ambitious student with good analytical and numerical skills. You want to start a career in an international financial environment, inside or outside the Netherlands.

You will acquire knowledge about finance, accounting and management. You will also learn the necessary business skills, such as intercultural awareness and empathy for those around you. You will work in small groups on international business assignments.

Your employer wants to set up a production facility in Taiwan. It is your task to calculate future revenues, production costs and the net present value of the project. Or, your company wants to take over one of its competitors and it's your task to research their financial information to determine the value of this company.

A financial business professional has different roles, such as financial analyst, financial consultant or financial administrator. From day one, you will take on these different roles of the financial business professional during projects.

The first year consists of 4 10-week blocks. In addition to the group project you work on, you attend classes. Courses are centered around finance, accounting, management accounting, corporate culture and international business. You take English classes and practice your digital skills.

1st Year Subjects:

Project 1: Business Organization, International Business, Financial Accounting, Marketing & Economics, Organizational Behavior, Statistics, Business Communication, Project 2: Business Processes, Accounting Information Systems, Law, Digital Skills, Project 3: Business Cycle, Management Accounting, Project 4: Sustainability, Corporate Culture, Finance,      Finance Risk, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fiscal Law.

In years 2-4, you gain in-depth knowledge of finance and control. In year 2 you will do a 5-month placement in an international organization.

2nd Year Subjects: Corporate Culture, Marketing & Economics, International Business, Project Investment Analysis, Management Control, Business Communication, Financial Accounting, Operational Auditing, Project International Business, Law, Accounting Information Systems, Supply Chain Management, Work Placement.

In year 3 you will study at a partner university for 5 months. At the end of year 4, you will individually carry out a graduation project in an international organization, working on advice or improvement ideas. Provided you spend 5 months outside the Netherlands, you are free to decide where you want to train or study abroad.

All courses and examinations will be in English, so you need a good command of spoken and written English.

The level required for admission should be an equivalent of the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 6.0 or higher, or TOEFL iBT score of 80 or higher, or diploma’s such as:

Cambridge Lower (FCE) Grade B (180-184)

Cambridge Advanced (CAE) Grade C (180 - 184)

Cambridge Proficiency (CPE)

Greek high school diploma (Apolytirio Genikou Lykeio), with a general grade of at least 16 and a grade of at least 17 for Mathematics.

Avans does not offer student accommodation.

Instead, we have partnered with the 2 major housing associations in Breda to launch an accommodation reservation system. All rooms are fully furnished. In all cases you will share a flat with other students, usually international students. Rental prices range from €370 to €475 per month. This includes water, electricity, gas and internet access. You will need to pay the rent for the full semester in 1 payment when you sign the rental agreement.

Please be aware that a limited number of accommodations are offered on this website, so not all students can be accommodated directly via the 2 housing associations.

If there are any rooms available, you can reserve one on the condition that you have been selected by the coordinator of your program and that you will be studying one of the following program Bachelor’s degree program:

Avans also is a partner of international student-to-student housing platform HousingAnywhere.com. If you are coming from abroad, you can use this website to book a student room. The rooms on this platform are offered by Avans students who are going abroad to study, graduate or complete a work placement. Using the platform is free for you as a student.

If you are going to be studying in Breda, the website 'Klik voor kamers' ('click for rooms') also is a good place to look for accommodation. Klik voor kamers offers a first-year guarantee arrangement for students who are starting a bachelor's degree program for the first time, giving them priority when assigning an unfurnished room based on traveling time. This also applies to foreign students.

There are several other agencies, organizations or websites that can help you find accommodation in each Avans city. Early registration for accommodation prior to the start of the study program is a must.
